Trevor Thera is a seasoned business executive and visionary leader with a robust background in strategic planning, industrial relations, and governance. He has a proven track record of spearheading company growth and fostering innovation across various industries.

As the former CEO of the OKIB Group of Companies, Trevor successfully guided the organization through periods of rapid growth and transformation, significantly expanding its market presence and achieving record-breaking financial performance. His leadership was pivotal in diversifying the company’s portfolio and establishing new revenue streams.

Currently, Trevor serves as the Director of Business Development and Industrial Relations at the KTC Tribal Council. In this role, he led the re-organization of KTC’s economic development portfolio and is the founding President and CEO of KTC Investments Corporation. His strategic initiatives have created substantial economic opportunities for the member nations, demonstrating his commitment to community-focused growth.

Trevor’s career includes senior executive roles within the Government of Alberta and the private sector. As the Executive Director of the Centre for Oil Sands Sustainability at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT), he led an applied research center dedicated to testing and validating oil sands-related technologies. His work facilitated significant advancements in environmental sustainability and industrial innovation.

Throughout his career, Trevor has facilitated the entry of new technologies and companies into Western Canada, collaborating with multinational enterprises such as Hitachi, GE, Siemens, and Lockheed Martin. He has also driven strategic alliances between the Government of Alberta and global corporations, fostering collaboration in technology, environmental, and resource sectors. Notably, as the driving force behind Canada’s largest industry/academic partnership program, the Ingenuity Centres for Research and Commercialization, Trevor enabled groundbreaking innovations with an annual budget exceeding $100M.

Trevor holds a BSc in Zoology/Ecology and an MSc in Ecological Modeling from the University of Manitoba. He has completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School and obtained a Certificate of Leadership Excellence from the Banff Centre for Leadership. His extensive education and training underscore his expertise in leadership, negotiation, and strategic decision-making.

Outside of work, Trevor enjoys golfing, sport fishing, and travel. He actively supports his children’s athletic endeavors and is an enthusiastic participant in various sports, including golf, squash, and road cycling. Trevor’s greatest strengths are his creativity, drive, and leadership, which he consistently applies to both his professional and personal pursuits.
